About Us
My day job in digital marketing kept me busy, but I’d always had the itch to work for myself. Back in 2020, during lockdown when we were all finding ways to fill the time outside of that one-hour-a-day-to-exercise rule, I decided to dive into a passion project. I wanted to build something from scratch using the skills I’d picked up over the years. Coffee became my ‘thing’. I'd always enjoyed a cuppa but never thought much beyond the odd instant or a bag of ground beans from the supermarket. I always thought coffee just tasted like, well, coffee. Who knew it could be fruity, floral, or even a bit tea-like?
Before COVID hit, my office life was pretty boring drink-wise. We had water, tea, instant coffee, or MSG-laden soups from the vending machines. The idea that coffee could be something spectacular never crossed my mind until I stumbled into the world of coffee science, roasting techniques, and flavour profiles.
I immersed myself into it; devouring books, watching videos, and joining online coffee communities. By July 2023, I had my SCA roasting certificate from the London School of Coffee. Armed with my trusty Aillio Bullet roaster, I started roasting coffee at home, experimenting with different beans and techniques to nail the perfect flavours.
And that’s how Wilby’s came to be. Named after my grandad, Wilby’s is more than just a business; it’s a tribute to my journey and passion. My aim is to create amazing coffee for specialty coffee lovers, and to show others just how incredible coffee can be - like I discovered back in 2020.
Every bag of coffee from Wilby’s is roasted by me, at home, to order. I handpick the best beans and roast them to perfection. It’s a labour of love, and my customers really appreciate the personal touch. Through Wilby’s, I hope to share my passion and bring together a community of coffee lovers who enjoy some of the finer things in life.
I know there are loads of fantastic specialty coffees out there, so it means the world when people choose mine. It’s not about being the biggest; it's about staying true to what I love. Wilby’s is all about quality, passion, and sharing the wondrous world of specialty coffee, one cup at a time.
